1. Trainers for running and sleds

You run 8 km and push/pull sleds on carpet-like turf. Pick a stable, grippy shoe that still runs comfortably; test it on the sled in training.

2. Grip gloves

Optional, but many racers wear thin grippy gloves for sled ropes and farmers carry. Check current HYROX rules on what is allowed.

3. Compression or race top

A close-fitting top won't catch on the sled rope or wall-ball target. Avoid baggy shirts.

4. Race shorts / tights

Something you can lunge and burpee in without adjusting. Pockets for a gel are a bonus.

5. Weighted vest (training)

Useful for training sandbag lunges and running under fatigue. Not worn in Open division racing.

6. Wall ball (training)

Practise 100 wall balls at home: standard race weights are 6 kg / 9 kg depending on division – check your division.

8. Knee sleeves

Support and warmth for lunges and wall balls; some racers use pads for burpee broad jumps.

9. Water bottle / hydration

Bring a bottle for the warm-up area and recovery; there's often a water station on course.

10. Electrolytes and gels

Long race-day waits and a 60–90 minute effort – practise any fuel in training first.

11. Gym / kit bag

Keep race shoes, spare clothes and your wristband together; a shoe compartment keeps damp kit separate.

12. Sports tape

For hot spots on hands or support; also useful for marking a bottle with your name.
